Services for International Employees & Scholars

KU International Student/Scholar Plan

The University of Kansas offers health insurance to international students and international J scholars. The health insurance company that administers the plan is called United Healthcare.  It is not required that all J-1 scholars use this plan; however, the level of coverage is typically much better than other insurance options that just meet the U.S. Department of State requirements. One of the benefits of this plan is that you can enroll monthly instead of annually, and you can purchase additional insurance such as dental and vision coverage.

Please submit the enrollment form to and you will receive instructions on how to set up an online account.  Once you have the online account you can pay by credit card.

Please note that you are not required to purchase this specific plan, but you are required to purchase insurance that meets U.S. Department of State Regulations.
